Understanding Refurbished ElectronicsWhen you hear the words “refurbished electronics” what comes in your mind? Is this the same as recycled or re-manufactured? Let’s us first define the word refurbished. To refurbish is to renew or update something in some way. Usually these items are sent back to the manufacturer because of different reasons. Some can be because the items might have scratches, dents, the packaging is damage, or simply the tape of the box no longer sticks. There are also time the customer who bought the item had a change of mind regarding the item and decide to returned this to the store though there is nothing wrong with them. Their performance is not affected in any way but these items cannot be sold as new instead they are tagged as refurbished. Some of these items have been labeled as “factory refurbished”.
Most items which are usually refurbished are electronics such as a refurbished printer, refurbished laptop or refurbished iPhone. These are better than reconditioned or used items because first they have not been used yet. Second, they have been carefully inspected by the manufacturer to see to it there is nothing wrong with them and they have not been used yet by the person who returned them. Normally the warranty which goes with new items is likewise the same for a refurbished item though there are some manufacturers who put limitations on the warranty. If an item has a short lifespan then the manufacturer has the option to shorten also the original warranty. Reconditioned electronics on the other hand, are item which have damaged or broken parts and these parts have been replaced in order to extend the life span of the item. They are repaired to the original specifications by the manufacturer. It is better to have electronics reconditioned by an authorized service center or the manufacturers themselves. Generally items which are off-lease electronics are reconditioned and they are often placed into the “sale” section of a store. They are cheaper than refurbished items since they have been used and reconditioned unlike the refurbished ones. Some companies in order to cut cost and to save money would refurbish their computers instead of buying new ones. Also some new small companies would settle in purchasing refurbished equipment such as refurbished computers and refurbished printers in order use the saved amount to purchase the other needs of the company. Just like any purchase one must always be cautious in purchasing refurbished items because there are scrupulous people out there who would say that the items they are selling are refurbished but they are not. So before making any purchase one has to be diligent in researching for respectable retailer who can offer the best deal possible when it comes to purchasing refurbished electronics. Just think that you are purchasing a second hand vehicle, you must not do this on a whim or without really searching, comparing prices and checking the vehicle to see if it is in good condition. When one’s budget is tight purchasing refurbished electronics can be considered as an option. |
